Moving a mobile home in Florida starts with an oversize-load permit from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and ends with a county tie-down permit and a licensed installer. A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour.
FDOT permit rules for mobile homes in Florida
FDOT's State Permit Office in Tallahassee issues oversize permits through its online Permit Application System. Florida's rule on movement conditions sets these limits for loads such as mobile homes.
| Rule | What Florida requires |
|---|---|
| Over 12 to 14 feet wide | Daytime only; one escort, or two on narrow roads and bridges unless the home has four warning lights |
| Over 14 to 16 feet wide | Trip permit only; two qualified escorts, one in front and one behind |
| Maximum width | Manufactured buildings are limited to 16 feet wide |
| Warning lights | Mobile homes need four warning lights, at the front and rear corners |
| Weekends and holidays | Not allowed unless the permit says otherwise |
| Visibility | No travel when visibility is under 1,000 feet |
Rules change. Confirm them with Florida Administrative Code rule 14-26.012 and FDOT before you move.
What we handle
- The FDOT permit application
- Route planning around low bridges and tight turns
- Escort vehicles where the width requires them
- Moving in daylight, within the permit dates
Florida setup and tie-down permits
In Florida the move is not finished when the home arrives. Counties issue a tie-down permit, and the work must be done by a Florida-licensed mobile home installer. Orange County, for example, issues tie-down permits only to a licensed installer or an owner-builder, requires inspections, and requires the installer to affix a state installation decal next to the HUD label.
Requirements differ by county, so check with your county building department. We handle blocking, leveling and tie-down, and hookups and skirting are available. Ask us what setup includes for your site. See the Orange County permit page as an example.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Florida?
A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move in Florida, and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour. Most single-wides move within 24 hours, and double-wides within 24 to 48 hours.
- Size. Homes over 12 feet wide need escorts, and over 14 feet need two.
- Distance. Longer routes mean more driving time, and moves are daytime only.
- Permits. FDOT fees are small next to the move, but escorts add cost.
- Site work. Clearing a lot, tie-down, hookups and skirting are priced separately.
