Moving a mobile home in Alabama involves two permits: a county move permit, which is $10 under the state rule and valid for 14 days, and an oversize-load permit from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour.
Alabama county move permit for mobile homes
Before a mobile home is moved on Alabama roads, the county official who handles manufactured home registration issues a move permit. Under the state rule the fee is $10 per home, and each permit is valid for 14 calendar days. You must show proof that taxes and the current registration fee are paid first. Moving a home without the permit is a Class C misdemeanor, with a fine of at least $50.
Counties set their own details. Mobile County, for example, charges $11.25 per home and issues the permit through the License Commissioner. Homes moving into or through Alabama are exempt from the county permit.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Alabama?
A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move in Alabama, and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour. Most single-wides move within 24 hours, and double-wides within 24 to 48 hours.
- Size. Homes over 12 feet wide need escorts.
- Distance. Longer routes mean more driving time and fuel.
- Permits. The county fee is small, but escorts and routing add cost.
- Site work. Clearing a lot, blocking, hookups and skirting are priced separately.

Setup and Alabama manufactured home rules
The county move permit does not replace the requirements of the Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission. It covers the revenue rules only. Moving the home is one step, and setting it up correctly at the new site is another.
We handle blocking, leveling and tie-down, and hookups and skirting are available. Ask us what setup includes for your site, and check the current state rules before you move. See the Alabama Department of Revenue moving rule and the Mobile County permit page.
