In Georgia, the county tax commissioner and the county building office matter as much as the state road permit. Mobile homes carry an annual location permit and decal, and some counties charge a relocation permit. A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour.
Georgia county location permits and decals
Georgia taxes mobile homes through the county tax commissioner. Under state rule 560-11-9, an owner pays all taxes due, including delinquent taxes, interest and penalties, and gets a mobile home location permit. The commissioner then issues a decal showing the county and year, which must be displayed on the home.
Moving to a new county adds a local step. Long County, for example, requires a relocation permit application with a bill of sale, a septic permit, a 911 address, proof of paid taxes if the home comes from another county, and a $1,000 fee. Homes older than 1976 need a visual inspection before the move, and the dirt pad, tie-downs and power are inspected at set-up. Fees and steps differ in every county, so call yours.
