Moving a mobile home in Wyoming means paying the current year's property tax first. The county treasurer issues a tax release, the county assessor completes the move permit application, and a Wyoming Port of Entry issues the permit. A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour.

The Wyoming paperwork chain

Wyoming statute 31-2-508 requires the owner to pay the current year's taxes, as computed by the county treasurer, before a mobile home is moved on a street or highway. Counties describe the same path:

  1. County Treasurer. Present the certificate of title and pay the current year's taxes and any delinquent taxes. The Treasurer issues an Application for Movement and Tax Release.
  2. County Assessor. Some counties, such as Uinta, have the assessor complete the move permit application once taxes are paid and ownership is shown.
  3. Port of Entry. Take the tax release or application to a Wyoming Port of Entry, which issues the moving permit.

Steps differ by county. See the pages for Carbon County and Uinta County, and ask your own county.

Wyoming oversize rules for a mobile home

Wyoming's size and weight rules set what a wide load needs. This is a summary from a compliance publisher, so check with the Wyoming Department of Transportation for your exact move.

Rule What to expect
Escorts, two-lane roads Two escorts (front and rear) at 14 feet wide or more, or if the load crosses the centerline
Escorts, interstate One rear escort at 15 feet wide or more
Travel hours Oversize moves in daylight only
Holidays Escorted moves barred on New Year's, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, with a window around each
Weather No moves when the highway is closed to unnecessary travel, or chains are required
Permit fee Single-trip oversize permits start at $25

Fees and rules change. Confirm them with WYDOT before you move.

Moving a home across open country

Wyoming has long stretches between towns, high winds and winter closures. These shape how we plan.

  • We schedule around wind, snow and chain-law closures
  • We choose routes with the width and clearances the home needs
  • We plan fuel and overnight stops on long hauls
  • Hookups, skirting and tie-down are priced separately

What a mobile home move costs in Wyoming

A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 to move, and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500, for a move of about an hour. Most single-wides move within 24 hours, and double-wides within 24 to 48 hours.

  • Size. Homes 14 feet wide and up need two escorts on two-lane roads.
  • Distance. Long routes between towns mean more driving time.

  • Site work. Clearing a lot, tie-down and hookups are priced separately.

Wyoming mobile home moving FAQ

Short answers to the questions we hear most about moving a home in Wyoming.

Do I need a permit to move a mobile home in Wyoming?

Yes, two things. The county treasurer issues a tax release once taxes are paid, and a Wyoming Port of Entry issues the move permit. We apply for the oversize permit and tell you what your county needs.

What taxes must I pay before moving a mobile home in Wyoming?

The current year's taxes as computed by the county treasurer, plus any delinquent taxes. If the levy is not set yet, the previous year's levy is used.

Where do I get the Wyoming moving permit?

At a Wyoming Port of Entry, after the county treasurer issues the tax release. Some counties have the assessor complete the application first.

Do mobile homes need escorts in Wyoming?

Wide loads do. On two-lane roads, two escorts are needed at 14 feet wide or more. On interstates, one rear escort is needed at 15 feet wide or more.

Can a mobile home move at night in Wyoming?

No. Oversize moves are limited to daylight hours.

Can a mobile home move in winter in Wyoming?

It can, but not when a highway is closed to unnecessary travel or chains are required. We schedule around the forecast.

How much does it cost to move a mobile home in Wyoming?

A single-wide typically costs $3,500 to $6,500 and a double-wide $7,500 to $13,500 for a move of about an hour. Distance, escorts, permits and site work change the final price.
